Rebecca Liu
Co-Producer
Rebecca is a third-year VFMP medical student who is excited to return to the Spring Gala Team for the third time! As a producer, she looks forward to showcasing the many talents of UBC medical students and collaborating with charity organizations. Since high school, Rebecca has been actively involved in the arts and event organizing for her arts programs. In her free time, she enjoys bouldering, ultimate frisbee, and creating medical illustrations.
Stephanie McCann
Co-Producer
Stephanie is currently a fourth year student from the Southern Medical Program in Kelowna. In her free time she enjoys skiing and playing soccer, but one of her other passions is painting and digital art. This is her third year being involved in the Spring Gala and is one of this year's co-producers. She is looking forward to organizing another incredible event that showcases the many artistic talents of our UBC medical students!
Kelly Mathews
Artistic Director
Kelly is a fourth-year VFMP student and is thrilled to be back for a third time as an Artistic Director on the Spring Gala team. She has been involved in the arts since childhood: singing in choirs, playing various musical instruments and dancing at a professional level. Kelly is a member of UBC Medicine’s Terpsichore, which allows her to keep up her dancing throughout medical school. Kelly thoroughly enjoyed the Gala last year and is looking forward to another memorable evening celebrating the many artistic talents of the UBC medical community!
Wendy Tsai
Artistic Director
Wendy is a fourth year at VFMP and is excited to again be a part of Spring Gala this year as an Artistic Director. She has loved being a part of the Gala team the past three years, previously serving as Co-Producer and Artistic and Sponsorship Directors. Having been a dancer for over 20 years, she values the transformative power of artistic expression and creativity. She looks forward to celebrating artistic talent within the medical community in her final year of medical school!
Roselyn Thom
Artistic Director
Roselyn is a fourth year VFMP student. Having co-produced last year's gala, she is excited to return as an artistic director this year. As an aspiring solo cellist throughout her childhood, she grew up performing at the Chan Centre theatre--she is excited to return to the stage, albeit in a different capacity! Outside of school, she enjoys going for dim sum, watching gymnastics, and reading memoirs.
Ruth Liu
Technical Director
Ruth is a 3rd year student at VFMP. This year marks the 20th anniversary since she first started playing the piano. Over the past two decades, music helped her make friends by enabling her to play piano duets and participate in music ensembles. Ruth performed in the past two Galas as a part of the Black and Blues Jazz Band. She is excited to go behind the scenes this year and be a part of the team that makes this annual tradition happen.
Sherry Zhao
Technical Director
Sherry is a first-year VFMP student excited to join the Spring Gala team as a Technical Director. With a passion for the nitty-gritty details of event hosting, she looks forward to helping create a smooth and memorable experience for everyone. In her free time, Sherry enjoys hot yoga, reading, and volunteering at the local cat sanctuary. She is excited to contribute behind the scenes and bring this vibrant celebration of talent in medicine to life.
Jiwon Hwang
Publicity Director
Jiwon is a second-year student at VFMP, excited to contribute to the Spring Gala committee this year after enjoying her experience performing with the MUSE ensemble in 2024. Growing up, she played viola with the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra and participated in the McMaster Health Sciences Musical, fostering her love for music and artistic expression. Passionate about curating events that bring people together through the arts, Jiwon invites everyone to join the upcoming Spring Gala in March—a celebration of creativity and performance!
Kevin Nishimura
Publicity Director
Kevin is a second-year student at VFMP and is excited to serve as the Publicity Director this year. Having performed at last year's gala, he enjoyed being part of a vibrant community that celebrated artistic creativity in full. Outside of medicine, Kevin is an avid baseball fan and an aquarium enthusiast who enjoys exploring marine life exhibits. He looks forward to helping organize another memorable gala this year!
Andrea Moir
Publicity Director
Andrea is a third-year VFMP student excited to join the Spring Gala team as a Publicity Director. A seasoned Gala performer, she has participated in the event for the past two years as a soloist and with the FIFE Girls A Cappella Group. Outside of medicine, Andrea enjoys ultimate frisbee, singing, and hiking. She is looking forward to helping organize an unforgettable evening that highlights the incredible artistic talents within the UBC medical community!
Yu Chi Lin
Finance Director
Yu Chi is a first-year VFMP student excited to join the Spring Gala team as Finance Director. A passionate musician, he plays saxophone, clarinet, and piano, and loves staying active through ultimate frisbee, running, and biking. As an “Ortho Bro” at heart, his favorite organs are muscles and bones. Yu Chi looks forward to contributing to this incredible event and celebrating the creativity of the UBC medical community.
William Lin
Sponsorship Director
Will is a second-year student at VFMP and is excited to serve as the Sponsorship Director this year. Passionate about the performing arts, he began playing classical piano at age four and has performed at renowned venues like Carnegie Hall in New York. Will enjoys using music to help others, organizing benefit concerts for local senior homes and Vancouver charities. This commitment makes him eager to contribute to UBC Medicine’s show for a great cause. Outside of school, Will balances his busy life with outdoor activities like rock climbing, biking, and swimming, which help him stay active and de-stress.
Lianne Cho
Art Show Director
Lianne Cho is a third year student at VFMP, and is thrilled to be part of the Spring Gala team this year. Throughout her 7 years to-date at UBC as part of the MD/PhD program, performing in the Gala with Terpsichore and seeing the talents of incredible colleagues has been one of the major highlights. Outside of medicine, she enjoys playing cello and piano, creative writing, and swimming. She looks forward to seeing everyone at the Chan Centre this March!
Victor Lee
Art Show Director
Victor is a third-year VFMP student and one of the Art Show Directors. Since starting medical school, the Spring Gala has been an unforgettable yearly highlight for him. He is excited to help celebrate the remarkable talent and creativity of UBC medical students! A lifelong painter, Victor draws inspiration from the breathtaking landscapes and wildlife of the Pacific Northwest, which feature prominently in his work. While he doesn’t plan to pursue a career in nephrology, his favourite organ is the kidney.
Tony Zhang
Photographer
Tony is a second-year VFMP student excited to serve as a Photographer for this year’s Spring Gala. With a love for photography, he looks forward to capturing the magic of the evening. Outside of school, Tony enjoys music, road trips, and collecting merch and models. Recently, he has been working on model railroading to fulfill a childhood dream.
